Humans are attractive

I used to hate drawing faces but it's kinda fun now. I mean it still doesn't look quite like the actual being but it's getting there. Hopefully. Very quick sketches. Pardon the language. I was feeling kinda of grouchy.

ANYWAY, it seems like I didn't update for a freaking long time. I decided to start a tumblr called horrible portraits. Basically, it files all my ugly attempts in drawing celebrities, musicians, actors and more. Check it out here. Feel free to drop your request and name/nick at the "Ask me to draw someone"  section and I will draw an ugly person for you. Thanks!

MORE POSES

TOO MUCH PROCRASTINATION! I only did 3 pose today.

I'm suppose to be working on a super short animation that I conceptualized.
I'm suppose to revise Japanese.
I'm suppose to do more animation.

I don't know why I only started working at night. Am I a night worker? By the way I went to fix my back and now I got bruises all over and it hurts. The good thing is that my bones went back to their rightful position and the numbness reduced.

More poses

More poses to make up for the last 2 days I MIA! More drawings rolling in!

Figurative sketches

Sorry about the obscenity of the figures. Haha. Little did I realize it till I'm done. I was trying to squeeze in a small page. These poses are from 30s maniac. I used the 90 seconds interval because I wasn't fast enough.

I did these after watching a small segment of Glenn Vilppu's masterclass video on figures. He is so amazing I suggest those who want to learn more about figures to watch them. He knows the human anatomy inside out from anatomy, gestures to rendering them.

These aren't good but I'll keep on drawing!

Heidi

Sorry this sucks. This was one of those doing it for the sake of doing it. I have to put in more effort

Like wo

I was trying to paint my favourite character. I failed. At least he looked human.

EDITED: The more I look at this, the worse it looks. Need more practice!

How I wanna spend my afternoon

Feeling lazy today. The color scheme was totally unexpected. I was on the train today and was staring at the diffuse shadows of trees so I was inspired to try painting something like that. I kinda like painting from my imagination now. I love light. Gonna study about them and observe more. This one was quite fast, after I found out why my wacom tablet mouse cursor was jittery and all.

This is how I would want to spend one of my lazy afternooon, alone by myself, underneath a magical tree. I still need one more painting to make up for the day before yesterday.

Imagining things in my head

Feeling angry today! RED. Actually, I'm starting to paint according to the colors I like on a certain day. I'm starting to understand a little more about lighting. I just have to keep doing it even when  don't know what I'm doing.

I'm starting to think about storytelling techniques as well. Very inspired by an environment painter. This one took me around half an hour to paint. A little time taken to think about what I want.

I kinda like the mood of it. I realized that it is not that I can't but it is sometimes that the stuff I imagined is a little hazy that makes the painting a little hard to depict like the previous ugly drawings I did. Once I know what I want to do, it  becomes clearer.

This one is about a boy going to the volcano to obtain the mystery stone. A little cheesy story for a cheesy day.

Don't give up, keep painting.

Thirsty

I was thinking why this sketch is kinda bur then I remembered I kept this zoomed out when I was painting. Three trekkers in the desert. I'm starting to see shapes and tones so it is a good exercise. Using the brushes made by hannes. Really cool brushes, just hope I can paint better.

I didn't post for the previous 2 days because I was modelling objects, so I'm gonna post 2 more work today! I will make up for each day I didn't post. I will try stick to posting everyday and make up for those days I didn't post.

I decided to add what song I was listening to while I am painting.

Listening to: Oh land while painting.

Watercolors B&W

Tonal studies. Very spectacular view (The photo reference of course) I hope I brought it out. Haha. A very quick one. 20 mins or so I reckon.

By the way I had been using a lot of reference for all the pictures so if you find one of yours, I probably got it from tumblr or google.

I'd been reading Noah Bradley's posts. Very encouraging. I really do need some encouragement. As an amateur artist, those critiques hurt bad. I'll just gotta keep doing it.

If I do do 1 or two pieces a day, I hope to see some improvement after 6 months.

I am seriously gonna stick to this and no procrastination. See you tomorrow.

Imaginative

Doing a bit of imaginative work here. No reference. Experiencing some technical errors with wacom. The tablet does not react to the pen instantly, it takes around 5 seconds for it to detect the pen above the tablet. I seriously do not know what is wrong.

The start of a bad drawing means I'm on the way to improve.

Graphite

Speed graphite.

Watercolors again

This is long overdue. I did this awhile back. I really want to learn how to mix colors. Perspective really off.

Happy tree drawing part II

Drawing with two of my new team mates after the life drawing class! :) I bought aquafine watercolors! Cost me 25bucks for 8 colors! Recommended from a watercolorist. This is a better pigment and I can really feel the difference using it. Sometimes it is also due to the quality of the paint other than techniques.

This is still horrible but slightly better than the one I did yesterday! This is like primary school drawing but my friend said it looks nice from far! LOL. I was a little comforted. I did a small one - A4 size.

Decided to draw another happy colorful tree with the remaining colors left on my palette! :)

Life drawing class

This is an awesome life drawing session with two of my most respected teachers. I learnt a lot today! I really got a lot of drawing tips and wise words today!

Warm up sketch. First is always the most horrible. Struggling with perspective and stuff. No pencils allowed! Only with a felt pen or marker. This is to stop us from making the "furry" drawings because of the lack of confidence.

I think it is super effective because it teaches me to have confidence in my strokes. Get it right with one stroke instead of going back and forth and creating hairy lines!!!! Of course I did my construction lines with my ball point pen but it is not furry lines but rather lines that figures out the flow and angle of the poses.

No rendering at this moment because the class is to get the poses right! Pretty short poses 3-5 mins and we did a 3 hour session. I was half an hour late! HAHA!

More interesting poses please, so the model had to do a lot of twisting as requested.

We also did some sequence poses from different angles.

Interaction with a fake vase and flower.

I like this pose the best. Again, from multiple angles. Hans likes us to move around and draw from different perspective.

Did one with the model pretending to be drinking/drunk.

As you can see, the drawing gets better with each round of short poses! My eye is starting to see shapes and angles.

Pretty good practice! I still got a long way to go but this is the first step. Keep doing it and you will get better!

Happy tree drawing

Watercolors with my friend in school! Lots of tress there! This is really horrible!!! My friend said it is partly because of the lousy watercolos we are using that can't blend! Largely due to my inept of using this medium!

Gotta keep practicing!

I AM BACK

I haven't been drawing I confessed. I need more practice!

School started! I went to the open sketch! This is terrible.

Sushi Platter

I love sushi but I kinda messed this up. Kinda of too bright. How do i draw rice??? The ginger is totally off. The only thing I like about this is the fish roe.

Boobylicious

I don't know why I kept wanting to draw boobs these few days. Haha! Her boobs supposed to be bigger but somehow my incorrect lines made her boobs smaller. The perspective and the proportion of both the hands are wrong but I'm lazy to change it so here you go. Stare at the smaller boobs. Till next time.

Just keep shading shading shading..

Should have listened to my teacher earlier, when he told our class that we should get a huge chunk of something like graphite/ chalk or pastel to lay down things quickly. I'm addicted to shading. I'm still struggling to see shapes and pinpoint the relationship of shapes to one another. I'm so lazy. I should start training my eyes instead of just randomly putting things down.

Both done with graphite crayon. Very quick sketches with a little smearing. They are pretty big so I smeared with my finger if you wanna know.

Need for bodies

Feel like drawing some hot bodies. Really bad shading here. Just trying out my graphite crayon. Really love it. I can draw pretty fast with it. Like less than 5 mins.

Sheepish

This is my second attempt at landscape, after my first failed one. The reference is in sepia. I'm struggling with drawing sheep. The photo reference is really a magnificent drawing but I failed at making it look awesome. Sometimes I really yearn for this kind of lifestyle. Travelling in a foreign land with animals, breathing and living life. Slowing down and taking a look around. Life can really be simple yet fulfilling. There are things that I want to achieve this life but sometimes one just long for more than materialism. The question is how to make the most out of everyday.

Exposure and experience is great and I long to travel the world. Anyway, dodge tool is bad for this one. There are a few marks left from doing so. Seeing big shapes in a photo is very important. I think I really need to work on human and animal anatomy. The man and sheep look not so convincing.

Iron Bars Nom nom nom

Oh man. I really wanted to draw/sketch some stuff but I procrastinated! Anyway, I tried to at least do something tonight.

What did I tell ya! Crazy for robot. I think practice really makes perfect. Looking at my past sucky attempts. This one is slightly better. Haha. I hope you can tell it is iron man! I love that movie!

I've been trying hard on the lighting. This one took me around an hour. I'm getting faster! Loving the dodge tool. Super effective to make things glow. The perspective is off in this one. I'll start working on my perspective. In this speed painting I learnt how not to overdo stuff, especially the color or else it will turn out muddy and fake.

I know I still suck balls but I'm trying! I hope my art will be as good as my drums one day. I'll give myself 6 months to reach this target. I'll TRY!!!

I saw this amazing korean artist play with some serious perspective. Gotta do some crazy stuff like that!

Robot Nightmare

My humble attempt to paint Master chief. No I do not play Halo. I don't know why I love robots so much. Fetish for robots. Haha.

This is my very first painting after I know the existence of the dodge tool and overlay technique. God I'm such a noob. Need to work on the colors. This looks rather muddy and dull. I think I spent 1 and a half hours at snail speed.

Need to work on:

Rendering technique.
Lighting
Perspective
Colors
Shapes

That seems like everything needs improvement! Go charlie!

Digidigi

Re-watching my favourite singers do their thing on youtube. Paused at this screenshot. The lighting is pretty amazing but I think I didn't do justice to that shot. Practicing real hard! Need to figure out hard edges and soft edges. I got them all mixed up.

This is the first drawing that I used my own color palette instead of lifting from the image. Indeed, the colors popped more than merely copying the values.

I think I used 1h. Oh well. At least it was faster than the last time I practice.

More portrait

Rough sketch 5-10mins. Trying to see tones.

I flew a kite

Flew kites today! I can barely remember the last time I flew a kite. I was still a small kid. Actually, I didn't exactly flew a kite. It was only up for a minute or so but it felt great to be fly one. Shot this with a compact camera so the quality is not exactly good. I'm getting a dslr soon! Gonna start photography again because I love it.

I got some shots with my diana f+ but I will not be developing them any sooner. I wanna wash the films at one go so it would be cheaper.

Photography is a great way to train the eye for composition, angle and lighting.

It is a super fun and exciting day with friends. I haven't had a picnic in years so it is a great feeling. If you have the chance, you should give it a go.

Peace out.
